Bert did but because he bought himself a bottle of Chianti the 96p change did not go down well. Copies of his most famous ballad ‘When the Tourists have Gone’ are still admired by the countryside alliance and indeed the Sons of Glendower. The song is a battle cry for the innocence of lost pastoral lifestyle as a consequence of the influx of filthy tourists in the hidden valleys of the Lake District.
